Some words are only used in a specific geographical area. These words will be very difficult to understand for people from outside of this area. Always use the word that most people will know.

This is also applicable to technical jargon. If a word is only understood by a very small number of people in a specific technical area, it will cause interference in communication.

Example:

Non-STE: Make a sandwich with two washers and the spacer.

STE: Install the spacer between the two washers.

Non-STE: Use a foot-long breaker bar during this procedure.

STE: Use a 12-inch wrench handle during this procedure.
