D019A001 Revision S July 30, 2014
Chapter 01 General Airplane Description
This chapter provides information about the general characteristics of the 737 airplane.
The model 737 airplane is a twin-engine, medium-range airplane that is designed for
commercial transport of passengers and cargo.
01-10-00 Model Designation See Std Selections
The model designation is 737-600. 737-600
The model designation is 737-700. 737-700
The model designation is 737-800. 737-800
The model designation is 737-900ER. 737-900ER
The Customer’s specification will show the Customer’s 737 model identification.
01-20-00 Engine Arrangement
Two CFM56-7BE high-bypass turbofan engines provide airplane propulsion. Refer to
Chapter 72.
A gas turbine auxiliary power unit (APU) provides supplemental pneumatic and
electrical power. Refer to Chapter 49.
01-30-00 General Arrangement
Exterior and interior general arrangement information is provided in this chapter. More
detailed information is provided in other chapters in this document.
A proposal to sell a model 737-600, 737-700, 737-800, or 737-900ER will usually
include one of the demonstration interior arrangements shown in Appendix F. The
demonstration interior is included in the proposal to provide initial approximations for
parameters such as passenger compartment layout, performance, and MEW/OEW.
During configuration negotiations, the Customer defines the desired interior from the
available options in the 737 Standard Selections publications.
Refer to Appendix F for the interior weight collectors based on interior arrangement.
01-30-01 Exterior General Arrangement
Figure 01-1 shows the exterior general arrangement. Chapter 27 describes the airplane
flight controls. Chapters 52 through 57 provide more detailed descriptions of the exterior
features of the airplane.
01-30-02 Interior General Arrangement
Figure 01-2 shows the airplane interior decks, which are the main deck and the lower
deck.
The main deck contains the flight compartment and the passenger compartment.
The lower deck contains two cargo holds and an electrical equipment (E/E) bay. Refer to
Chapter 50.
02-20-04 Weights and Operational Limits
The airplane is certified as specified in the Purchase Agreement at the weights specified
in section 03-10-00.
The airplane and its equipment are certified at these operational limits:
• Maximum runway slope: ±2 percent
• Maximum takeoff and landing altitude: 8,400 feet (pressure altitude)
• Maximum takeoff and landing tailwind component: 10 knots
• Maximum operating altitude: 41,000 feet (pressure altitude)
• Maximum certified crosswind capability: 36 knots measured at 10 meters height
• The engines can operate at takeoff thrust for up to 5 minutes
Refer to sections 02-21-00 and 02-22-00.
02-20-10 Reduced Vertical Separation Minimum
The airplane is equipped as specified in the FAA Memorandum 91-RVSM version in
effect at the time of reduced vertical separation minimum (RVSM) certification for this
model for RVSM flight in any airspace or route between altitudes of 29,000 feet and
41,000 feet inclusive where airplanes are separated vertically by 1,000 feet (300 meters).
Airplane configurations that meet FAA RVSM equipment requirements are accepted by
EASA as being in compliance with EASA regulations for RVSM airplane equipment
requirements.
Before beginning RVSM operations, it is the responsibility of the operator to obtain
operational approval from its regulatory agency. Any additional equipment, operational
requirements, or future changes to RVSM requirements are the responsibility of the
operator.
See Std Selections 02-21-00 Alternate Dispatch Capabilities
FAA-approved Airplane Flight Manual data is provided for airplane dispatch for these
conditions:
• All brakes and antiskid operative
• All brakes operative and antiskid inoperative
See Std Selections 02-22-00 Airplane Performance Enhancements
737-900ER A short-field performance enhancement package provides higher certified payload when
operating into airports with runways with 5,000 feet or less available takeoff and landing
distance under certain conditions. This package includes modification to the leading edge
devices, spoilers, main landing gear, and a two-position tail skid.
02-24-00 Extended Operations
See Std Selections The airplane is equipped to support operations with diversions up to 60 minutes. |
