波音给回复了:头大了!波音说的比较含糊,一方面说是正常滴,一方面说这个情况也很少见。
DESCRIPTION
---------------------
We had checked and found there's no pin in the position F11 on connector D2501 A of the REU(P/N:5160-1-1) , and confirmed the situation was that when rotated the radio level button within 3/4 circle, there's no whistle, if rotated beyond 3/4 circle the whistle occurred, but other 737 classic aircrafts have no problem like this.
QUESTION:
=========
1. According to SSM23-51-00 sheet3, when the PTT audio signal goes through REU to speaker, there will be a speaker mute circuit marked with "-8 to -20DB speaker mute" , please clarify if the reason of speaker's self excitation is that the speaker's volume had been turned too high and the circuit can't achieve attenuation effect?
2. Is there any other operator complained the problem like this? Does Boeing consider this self-excitation phenomenon as a normal condition?
3. Because the too high volume of speaker enter boom mike will make a self-excitation, so can we seal the speaker surface by adhesive tape to prevent this?
4. If can't, could Boeing provide other trouble shooting suggestions?
RESPONSE
=======
1. From the information provided, it is believed that the system is functioning satisfactorily, but that even with the attenuation of "-8 to -20DB", with the speaker's volume turned to its highest level and the VHF radio transmit also turned to its highest level, the system is being overdriven.
2. While not common, Boeing has received other reports of self-excitation (feedback) and it is a normal condition for electronic systems that when overdriven, they will generate a loud "whistle"
3. Boeing recommends against sealing the speaker surface with adhesive tape to prevent this feedback loop.
4. As SHZ has mentioned, there is fixed attenuation in the REU for the overhead speakers. It is possible that this attenuation is not set at a sufficiently high level in the REU installed on the datum airplane. Accordingly, it might be worthwhile to install the REU from the datum airplane on another airplane to see if the anomaly follows the REU (and / or conversely, remove an REU from an airplane which does not exhibit this anomaly and install it on the data airplane to see if the anomaly is corrected)..
ADDENDUM
------------------
Since the situation described is not a normal operating procedure, Boeing again requests SHZ to verify if the audio system functions satisfactorily with the Speaker and Radio switches set to their mid-range positions and if the audio system does not perform satisfactorily with the switches in the normal range, please provide this information to Boeing. |
