SUBJECT: Black spot under the radome protective boot
DESCRIPTION:
Black spots are found on the nose radome after radome protective boot installed in accordance with 737-700/-800 AMM 53-52-00/201,just like the attached pictures. There are no any damage,so it's hard to judge whether it's a lightning strike during line maintenance.

Q2.Is it possible that it is a lightning stroke, but the outer membrane is good?
RESPONSE:
A1. The damage shown in the reference /B/ and reference /C/ images appears mostly consistent with what we recognize as lightning strike to the radome with protective boot installed.

A2. Typical lightning strike damage to the booted radome leaves a pinhole in the protective boot. Even if the protective boot has not been penetrated, Boeing's recommendation is that the radome be inspected in accordance with the guidance below at the earliest practicable maintenance opportunity.

The main purpose of radome conditional maintenance is to protect the radome from potential compromise that could lead to ingress of moisture.

Tap testing the radome structure covered by the boot may not provide adequate auditory response to determine if delamination of the radome has occurred.
