The jettison system operation can only be started manually, but it can be stopped manually or automatically.
(1) Jettison System Set to ON   
When the two jettison P/BSWs are set to ON:
-     the two jettison valves 5100QV1 and 5100QV2 open   
-     the crossfeed valve  (Ref. AMM D/O 28-23-00-00)  opens  
-     the two transfer pumps  (Ref. AMM D/O 28-26-00-00)  supply fuel from the center tank (if fuel is in the center tank)   
-     if open, the trim-pipe isolation valve and all the fuel tank inlet-valves (but not trim tank) close   
-     the two aft transfer valves (B and D) open  (Ref. AMM D/O 28-27-00-00)   
-     all the main and standby pumps supply fuel from the inner tanks  (Ref. AMM D/O 28-21-00-00)   
-     a forward transfer starts into the center tank  (Ref. AMM D/O 28-27-00-00) .   
NOTE: The standby pumps and the crossfeed valve stay in the jettison mode until one or the two jettison P/BSWs are released out.   
The fuel (from the inner and center tanks) then flows through the jettison valves, the jettison pipe in the No 4 flaptrack fairing and overboard.
The operation of the jettison system continues until one of these conditions occur:
-     the crew manually stop the operation   
-     the fuel quantity decreases to a level the crew have set   
-     the total of the two inner tank fuel quantities is less than 10,000 kg (22,000 lb)   
-     the two ETOPS level sensors  (Ref. AMM D/O 28-46-00-00)  become dry.  
When it is necessary to operate the jettison system, the JETTISON P/BSWs 3QV and 9QV are set to ON. If one of the two ETOPS level sensors is wet and the total fuel quantity in the two inner tanks is more than 10,000 kg (22,000 lb) the jettison system operates. The relay 14QV1 connects a 28VDC supply to the actuator 100QV1 which operates and the LH jettison valve (X) opens. At the same time the relay 14QV2 connects a 28VDC supply to the actuator 100QV21 which operates and the RH jettison valve (Y) opens.
